Overview

Are you finding that, although a campsite offers you WiFi, you still struggle to pick up a good signal? The USB WiFi Adapter from Alfa offers a solution to this. An external access point is placed outside the caravan/motorhome and collects a WiFi signal offered by a holiday park/campsite. This signal then travels inside the caravan/motorhome via a cable and is plugged directly into your laptop via a USB-A port.

The outdoor access point has multiple mounting options: a mounting bracket & a clip for permanent pole mounting, which is typically only done for a fixed location, e.g., a static caravan or garden office, etc. For temporary installations, the mounting bracket can be used with suction cups once you are parked up at a campsite.  This kit is not suitable to be left up whilst driving.

WiFi 'booster' to Access Campsite WiFi in your Motorhome

Article: WiFi 'booster' to Access Campsite WiFi in your Motorhome

Why is accessing WiFi offered by a Campsite tricky for Motorhomes? Metal exterior acts like a faraday cage weakening/blocking incoming WiFi signals. The best fix? An external WiFi antenna, accompanied by an internal repeater. This set-up grabs strong WiFi signals outside and rebroadcasts them inside your vehicle, bypassing your van's metal barrier.

Article - IP Ratings Explained, by Daniel Coombs

Article: IP Ratings Explained

IP ratings, or Ingress Protection ratings, are a standardised benchmark of how capable a product is of withstanding ingress from foreign entities that could negatively impact its functionality. They’re helpful because terms like ‘weatherproof’ and ‘waterproof’ are unspecific terms and don’t always convey the necessary level of detail.
