KU-MY-WIFI-HOTSPOT

Outdoor Access Point.

Overview

This Outdoor Antenna can be used as a general-purpose outdoor access point and includes a range of additional modes enabling it to function as a high-performance WiFi client device. These capabilities allow it to broadcast WiFi in areas outside where it needs to be strengthened, such as gardens, festival grounds, and campsites. It can also be used as a client to pick up public wireless services in areas like caravan parks and marinas.

Used as a WiFi Access Point, it is capable of boosting an outdoor WiFi signal up to 100-150 metres, depending on how open the outdoor area is and if it has to deal with obstructions like trees and buildings. Because of the device's omni-directional nature, the WiFi it broadcasts is spread across a wide area in 360 degrees around it, perfect for use as a public access WiFi hotspot.

Combining this outdoor antenna with the Teltonika RUT140 is a really useful way of connecting to a WiFi signal outside and bringing it in to share with other devices inside. Often you would use this system for your caravan, motorhome, narrow boat type of set-up, particularly useful if your building or unit has walls that block the WiFi coming inside directly.

This product is sometimes referred to as WiFi Booster, WiFi AP Repeater, Access Point Repeater, WiFi Extender.

Article - IP Ratings Explained, by Daniel Coombs

Article: IP Ratings Explained

IP ratings, or Ingress Protection ratings, are a standardised benchmark of how capable a product is of withstanding ingress from foreign entities that could negatively impact its functionality. They’re helpful because terms like ‘weatherproof’ and ‘waterproof’ are unspecific terms and don’t always convey the necessary level of detail – waterproof on one device can mean it’s capable of withstanding rain. In contrast, on another device, it can mean being capable of complete submersion in water for extended periods.
