A-OMNI-494

OMNI-494 Poynting Antenna.

Overview

The Poynting OMNI-494 is a cross-polarised, dual-band WiFi omnidirectional antenna for marine and coastal deployments. It provides dual-band WiFi coverage in the 2.4 GHz and 4.9 to 7.2 GHz bands, making it ideal for any WiFi access point, whether it is older WiFi technology or new technology up to WiFi6E (7.2 GHz). The OMNI-494 also covers the 5G frequency band 3300-4200 MHz.

The OMNI-494 offers 4x4 MIMO capability from its vertically separated radiating elements, allowing for true omni-directional coverage suitable for marine and coastal applications. To further add to the 4x4 MIMO performance, the antennas are cross-polarised, with high gain vertical antennas, with a peak gain of 9.8 dBi, and low gain horizontally polarised antennas, with a peak gain of 4.5 dBi, for improved performance.

The OMNI-494 is purpose-built for harsh environments with an IP 68 protection rating against dust and water ingress.  The antenna is foam-filled meaning it is ideal for the most severe storms at sea. The radome is fully saltwater protected and can be used in highly corrosive environments, thanks to the UV stable ASA radome material.

Article - IP Ratings Explained, by Daniel Coombs

Article: IP Ratings Explained

IP ratings, or Ingress Protection ratings, are a standardised benchmark of how capable a product is of withstanding ingress from foreign entities that could negatively impact its functionality. They’re helpful because terms like ‘weatherproof’ and ‘waterproof’ are unspecific terms and don’t always convey the necessary level of detail.
