Solwise V500-DS IP Telephone - DECT, PSTN, Skype
No PC required for Skype calls
The
V500DS is a stand-alone Skype DECT phone that allows users to
access both the PSTN and Skype network. The PC-Less Skype DECT is
implemented with embedded Skype software, which incorporates Skype features such as Voicemail, call forwarding and
Skype-In/Skype-Out services
There
is no need to have the Skype application running on a PC (No PC is
required to make Skype calls). Once the base station is connected to the
Internet, the handset will become an embedded Skype device, and the
user can make Skype-to-Skype calls, or Skype In/Out calls with
fixed-line numbers (Skype chargeable service).
The
Skype user contact list is shown on a 1.5” colour handset screen. The
users can easily see their contacts’ status and profiles, as well as
their Skype credit balances for SkypeOut. New users can be added on the
handset.
There
are separate call lists for both the PSTN and Skype Calls, and the
users can easily identity the call lists as either from PSTN or Skype. So long as there is a broadband connection to the V500-DS phone you can make Skype to Skype/landline calls without the need to have phone connected direct to your landline (this means you would not be able to make landline to landline calls).
The phone has speakerphone, keypad backlight and polyphonic ring tones
as standard features. There is also a headset option.
Firmware is now available which fixes the loss of speech that sometimes happens with Skype DECT phones.

'It must be said that looks are one of the V500SD's trump cards. The entire package looks clean and modern, but hasn't been overstyled, while the plastics are all of a good quality. It certainly makes the Netgear offering look just a little 'PC peripheral' when viewed alongside it. '
