What we do
Solwise do technical distribution. By this we mean that we do more than just shift boxes. All our products are carefully selected to represent the best value for money within their sector. If we can't offer something special in a product range we don't carry it. We also understand our products. Whether you need help selecting a product before buying, or help to get your system working when it arrives, we will be able to give quality advice. This is because we are a small company and care about your business, as well as ours.
Quality Policy
At Solwise we have considered adopting a quality standard such as ISO9002. After investigating these schemes we have decided not to take this route.
Although we use many of the mechanisms of the recognised schemes, such as bar-code tracking, batch testing and record keeping, we feel that the rigid imposition of a procedures-manual approach would reduce rather than increase the quality of our service. This is because we understand 'quality' as representing something much more than conformance to specification, and consider that a registered scheme would damage the flexibility that we can offer our customers. Our flexibility enables us to respond quickly to customer requirements without adopting formal procedures for every exception to normal mechanisms.
Solwise don't have a formal mission statement, it would be a little too 'management-speak' for us, however we do rather admire IBMs 'Think' and Googles 'Do no evil'. If we ever did adopt a mission statement I suspect we would definitely choose 'Care!' rather than 'Remember to fill the form in!'.

How much does it cost to call Solwise?
Our 0845 numbers.

0845 numbers are 'non-geographic' numbers which should cost 4p per minute or less from a UK land-line.
We use 0845 numbers, sometimes called 'Local-Rate' or 'lo-call' numbers as our main publicised number. We do this because we have moved several times in our 20 year history and it has generally been very expensive or impossible to bring our telephone numbers with us. We are currently committed to keeping these as our main numbers into the foreseeable future. Please record these numbers for future use rather than any others.
In theory 0845 numbers generate a revenue for us. In practice however, the value of the revenue is not worth collecting on the volume of calls we take.
Our Geographic numbers (01482 numbers)

If you are on a 'standard' tariff calling these numbers should cost about 6p per minute . If you are on a 'good' tariff with a competitive supplier you may be on a rate of as little as 1p per minute, or even less. We are happy to take calls on our geographic numbers but please remember that they may not be consistent. There are many reasons why they may change so please keep a record of our 0845 number for future reference.
Options we have considered.

0870 numbers are non-geographic number which OfCom say must be charged by your supplier at the same same rate as geographic numbers. So it would seem sensible for us to use these instead of 0845s. However, there is a catch. To take calls on an 0870 number will cost us about 3p per minute. I suspect that the prevalence of these numbers amongst UK businesses will change when the pricing rule starts to be enforced by OfCom after August 2010.
0800 numbers are free to the caller and we could have calls routed to us this way at a cost of about 2p per minute. We have decided not to go this way. We feel that we offer an unequalled service for pre-sales and technical support and for customers to expect us to pay for the privilege of providing this would be just rude. If you don't think our pearls of wisdom are worth 4p-or-so per minute, you can have them for free via the website or email.
Other musings
=============
We have significant experience of Voice-over-IP. Over data connections with guaranteed levels of service it is possible to get consistently excellent results. Over the general internet however quality is at best variable. We thus took the view that using VoIP as our main carrier for business calls to save a few pence per minute was disrespectful to the people we were calling. Just rude in fact. We hope you would take the same view when calling us.

Turn left at Priory Way, then take the next left (at the lights) onto Saxon Way. Go over the roundabout and follow the road until you come to Priory Tec Park. You will want gate 3 on your left.
